Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny heaped praise on Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé after the Catalans’ 4-3 win over their rivals on Sunday.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star netted a hat-trick against the Blaugrana, with Szczęsny in goal. The Polish goalkeeper acknowledged that Mbappé always finds a way to score against him and never gives up.

He pointed out that the France national team captain has now scored as many as nine goals in five matches against him. “Honestly, I admire Mbappé’s mentality. Even when the situation is very difficult for his team, he never gives up,” Szczęsny told BarcaUniversal, full of praise for the Bondy-born forward.

“I think he’s the player who has scored the most goals against me. In four or five games, he’s scored eight or nine goals against me,” added the former Juventus keeper.

A new two-year deal?

Szczęsny also spoke about his future with Barça. With his contract expiring next June, the Polish international is expected to extend his stay for another two seasons. Talks for a contract extension are already underway, according to Szczęsny—though he joked that the final decision would rest with his wife, Marina Łuczenko-Szczęsna.

“I won’t hide the fact that I’ve been offered a new two-year deal. However, I need to discuss it with my family to decide what’s best for us. I need to make this decision for my family, for my wife, and we’ll decide together. I haven’t made up my mind yet. Most of the decisions at home are made by my wife, and I’m absolutely not ashamed of that,” he said.
