DRC: residence of Joseph Kabila searched amid suspicions of ties to AFC/M23

A property belonging to former President Joseph Kabila was searched by security services.

The operation took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at a site housing offices, warehouses, and containers, some of which are reportedly owned by businessmen, including individuals of Indo-Pakistani origin.

Joseph Kabila is suspected by certain actors of being the true leader behind the AFC/M23, a politico-military movement supported by Kigali and active in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The security services carried out this search operation two weeks after the former head of state returned to Congolese territory. The aim of the operation is believed to be the recovery of allegedly stolen military equipment. The searches are expected to continue on Thursday, April 17.

According to family sources cited by RFI, another operation is also reportedly planned in the coming days at the N’Sele Valley Park, where one of Joseph Kabila’s main residences is located.
