The month of March 2025 was particularly tragic on Burkina Faso’s roads.
According to a report released Monday evening by the Ministry of Security, a total of 1,456 road accidents were recorded across the country, resulting in 99 deaths and 1,357 injuries.
The regions most affected are Centre, Hauts-Bassins, and Centre-Ouest, which account for a large share of the incidents. Authorities are deeply concerned by the rising number of road accident victims, which continues to grow year after year.
In fact, the National Fire Brigade (BNSP) recorded 619 road-related deaths in 2024, compared to 553 in 2023—an alarming increase of nearly 12%. In response to this surge in accidents, the Ministry of Security has renewed its call for road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws.
The ministry emphasized that recklessness, speeding, and drunk driving remain among the leading causes of accidents. A more robust public awareness campaign is also planned to help curb this growing trend of road violence.
