The Central African government announced on Monday the implementation of measures to halt armed clashes in the Haut-Mbomou region (southeast), which has seen a resurgence of violence. The announcement was made by government spokesperson Maxime Balalou during a press conference in Bangui.
The area remains unstable following clashes between security forces—supported by allied fighters—and the Azandé Ani Kpi Gbe militia. “Actions are underway to restore calm and reestablish order,” said Balalou, who also serves as Minister of Communication and Media.
He called on affected communities to “remain patient and resilient,” assuring that those responsible for the violence would be prosecuted and brought to justice.
According to the minister, the situation is now under control thanks to a joint intervention by the national army, its allies, and UN peacekeepers, who have been deployed to protect civilians.
