Ivory Coast: student dies after consuming suspicious substance

In Ivory Coast, tragedy struck the educational community of Songon on Monday, April 28, 2025, when a senior-year student (Terminale A2) at Lycée Moderne tragically lost his life on school grounds.

According to eyewitness accounts, the young boy had ingested a substance suspected to be a drug shortly before collapsing. The incident occurred during the school day, leaving classmates and staff shocked and grief-stricken.

Despite the quick response of school supervisors and the arrival of emergency services, the student sadly did not survive before he could be transferred to a medical facility.

Local authorities have launched an immediate investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death and to identify the nature of the substance involved.
