Former Paris Saint-Germain star Jérôme Rothen has told Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé that he won’t win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Speaking to RMC Radio, the ex-Rangers player stated that the 2018 World Cup winner has been a “resounding failure” at Real Madrid. Rothen claimed that Mbappé joined the Spanish giants to fulfill his dream of playing for the club and winning the Ballon d’Or.

He added that the 26-year-old has done nothing of note at the club this season. “People keep talking about Kylian Mbappé. He joined the club of his dreams with the ambition of winning every trophy, including the Champions League, and to be one of the best players in the world—to win the Ballon d’Or. But both collectively and individually, it’s been a failure,” he said bluntly.

“He will not win the Ballon d’Or this year. It’s a complete flop,” Rothen added.

Kylian Mbappé joined Real Madrid in 2024 after seven seasons at PSG, where he won every domestic title.
