“Diane Nama, Cameroonian comedian and panelist on the show ‘Women’s Choir’ broadcasted on Canal+, recently stirred a lot of reactions with her comments, which have been widely discussed on social media.

During a recent episode of ‘Le Chœur des Femmes’ on Canal+Elle, Diane Nama boldly answered the question of whether a woman can be the head of a family.

‘Personally, no! I really am a traditionalist and I won’t betray my traditions for modernization. A woman cannot be the head of a family in my view,’ Diane stated before explaining: ‘It’s not an absolute logic, but for me, the role of a woman is to be beside her husband. That is, to assist. It’s not for her to have the last word in front of a man saying ‘I have decided that.’ For me, that’s unseemly. Even traditionally, it doesn’t go down well. Even the Bible mentioned that a wise woman builds her home while the foolish one tears it down with her own hands. It’s a very clear proverb. Not to say that a woman is marginalized in her home, not at all!

She continued, disclosing that she is not against women’s emancipation, however, there shouldn’t be an over-exaggeration. ‘Today, the modernization we talk about still allows a woman to have a say, unlike in earlier years during our grandparents’ time when a man would decree, ‘it’s this way and no other.’ I am for progress, but we shouldn’t overdo it! She can’t make decisions in front of a man, but she should support him,’ Diane Nama affirmed.”
