HomeSportFootballSPL: Saudi Arabia sets sights on Raphinha

With Cristiano Ronaldo inevitably nearing the end of his career, Saudi Arabia is already searching for a new marquee star to headline its domestic league. And the Gulf giant has now turned its attention to Barcelona captain Raphinha.

After failed attempts to sign Mohamed Salah and Vinícius Júnior—the Egyptian forward having extended his stay at Liverpool, and the Real Madrid winger also set to renew his contract—Saudi officials are now targeting Raphinha. With 30 goals and 23 assists in 49 matches across all competitions, the Barça captain is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career.

According to Sport, the Saudi Pro League is prepared to go all out to sign the 28-year-old. The Catalan outlet reports that Al Hilal is ready to offer a contract running until 2029, with an annual salary of €50 million to lure the Brazilian star. Barcelona, for its part, would receive a €100 million transfer fee.

The Spanish club is reportedly not opposed to the offer, especially given Raphinha’s growing salary demands. A summer departure could help ease financial pressure and provide much-needed funds. Now, the key will be convincing Raphinha, who is under contract with the Catalans until 2027.
