Senegal: PASTEF’s Message from Ousmane Sonko to Patriots

After being brought to power, the political party PASTEF, led by Ousmane Sonko, sent a message to the population. It was conveyed through a statement on Friday, April 12, 2024.

The PASTEF party, recently brought to power in Senegal with Ousmane Sonko at its helm, delivered a solemn message to the nation. In an official statement released on Friday, April 12, the party pledged to govern with integrity and solicited the active support of the citizens to back the newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in fulfilling his duties.

The first cabinet meeting chaired by the newly inaugurated head of state marked a critical milestone. PASTEF, known for its oppositional stance before its rise to power, affirms that no room will be allowed for selfish governance. The leadership stresses the many sacrifices that were necessary to gain government access and their firm will to respond to the aspirations of the Senegalese people with dedication and solidarity.

Therefore, while paying tribute to the memory of all the martyrs of the common struggle, the party has pledged to “remain faithful to the very end to the ideal of liberty, democracy, justice, equality, and shared prosperity that has called for all our sacrifices.”

According to statements from his former political party where he served as General Secretary, Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his colleagues must now buckle down to work with diligence. For his former party mates, the real tests are only just beginning. Consequently, PASTEF calls on all patriots, both at home and abroad, to intensify their efforts during this term. The objective is to ensure that the program put forward by the current leaders leads to tangible results.

The hardest part, however, lies ahead of us; the true victory is yet to be won through our ability to turn our Project into a reality of positive transformation of the daily lives of people in our country and our continent, through our ability to finally give substance to their hope and dreams. To do this, we must surpass ourselves and double our efforts during this five-year term so that the PROJECT becomes subject to popular and citizen appropriation and its implementation is crowned with success,” reads the PASTEF statement.
