The Nigerien army announced on Wednesday that nine terrorists were neutralized during two operations carried out between Monday and Tuesday in the western part of the country.
The first intervention, conducted on Monday along the Makalondi-Bankéré axis, allowed a military detachment to repel a group of assailants. Six of them were shot dead as they attempted to flee, according to the army’s information bulletin.
During the subsequent security sweep of the area, the armed forces seized several items belonging to the terrorists, including a motorcycle, military bedding, a weapon with three magazines, and pharmaceutical products, which were later destroyed.
The second operation resulted in the deaths of three attackers who were killed by the explosion of an improvised device they were handling near the village of Garbougna. A military unit was quickly dispatched to the scene to assess the situation, the statement added.
