Niger has announced its withdrawal from the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), a decision that continues the policy of rupture initiated by the Niamey authorities with Western institutions since the coup d’état of July 2023.
According to a diplomatic note signed by Laouali Labo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this withdrawal was formalized by a note verbale dated March 7, with a document confirming the decision on March 17.
Since coming to power, the Comité National pour la Sauvegarde de la Patrie (CNSP), under the leadership of General Abdourahamane Tiani, has undertaken to melt Niger’s foreign policy. This dynamic resulted in the denunciation of several military cooperation agreements with France in August 2023, followed in March 2024 by the termination of the military agreement with the United States, leading to the withdrawal of American forces from the Agadez base.
