Marc-Vivien Foé Award 2025: Hakimi among final three contenders

HomeSportFootballMarc-Vivien Foé Award 2025: Hakimi among final three contenders

The shortlist for the 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award was unveiled on Monday, with Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Senegal’s Habib Diarra, and Ivory Coast’s Evan Guessand making up the final three nominees.

Who will succeed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? The Gabonese striker, winner of last year’s award, is not in the running this time. The prize, which honors the best African player in France’s Ligue 1, is now down to three contenders.

Leading the shortlist is 20-year-old Habib Diarra. The Senegalese defensive midfielder has been a standout performer for RC Strasbourg, where he has already become an undisputed starter—and the team’s captain.

Next is Evan Guessand, an Ivorian striker and the main attacking threat for OGC Nice. The 23-year-old has carried his team this season with a series of crucial goals, establishing himself as a key figure in their campaign.

The final contender is Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain’s Moroccan right-back. A finalist last year, Hakimi is widely seen as the favorite to win the 2025 edition of the award, thanks to another strong season in Ligue 1.

The winner will be announced on May 12.
