HomeSportFootballBrazil: Rivaldo backs Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment

Brazilian football legend Rivaldo has voiced his support for Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as head coach of the Seleção. The former Barcelona striker believes the Italian manager is poised to achieve great things with the Brazilian national team.

“The most successful national team in football history will now be led by the most decorated coach in the world. Carlo Ancelotti, a name synonymous with historic accomplishments, was officially announced on Monday, May 12, by CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues as the new head coach of the Brazilian national team,” the Brazilian Football Confederation stated.

A new chapter begins for the Italian tactician, who will take over on June 1. Set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, Ancelotti is taking the reins of a Seleção that has struggled in recent years. His main task will be to guide Brazil to qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

It’s a major challenge for the 65-year-old coach, who will need to quickly assemble a competitive squad for the upcoming South American qualifiers. A daunting mission awaits “Carletto,” but he can count on widespread support within the Brazilian football community—including from Rivaldo.

“Historically, Brazil has always been led by Brazilian coaches, but at least they’ve chosen one of the best,” said the 1999 Ballon d’Or winner on social media. “Carlo is a successful coach under whom I had the privilege to play. He’s won at every club he’s coached, and even though there’s little time before the World Cup, he has the potential to do a great job.”
