Benin: the central Imam of Porto-Novo is no more

Benin mourns the passing of the central Imam of Porto-Novo, El Hadj Amzat Houzeifa, who was called back to God during the blessed month of Ramadan. For many believers, this departure is seen as a sign of the greatness of his spiritual commitment.

A former president of the Islamic Union of Benin and chairman of the Cadre de Concertation des Confessions Religieuses du Bénin, El Hadj Amzat Houzeifa devoted his life to promoting the values of peace, tolerance and brotherhood.

His leadership within the Muslim community has left a lasting imprint, notably through the major reforms he initiated, such as the introduction of alternation at the head of the Union.

A unanimous tribute

The President of the National Assembly, Louis Vlavonou, expressed his deep sadness at the loss.

“Throughout his life, he embodied the values of peace, tolerance and fraternity, guiding the Muslim community of Porto-Novo with wisdom and dedication. His tireless commitment to living together and social cohesion will remain forever engraved in our memories.”

Renowned for his discretion and the pertinence of his words, El Hadj Amzat Houzeifa was a man of dialogue and reconciliation.
