Benin’s Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) has released the official timelines for activities related to the 2026 general elections. The presentation ceremony took place on the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the institution’s headquarters in Cotonou, in the presence of key stakeholders in the electoral process.
On this formal occasion, the official documents were handed over to the President of the Constitutional Court, representatives of political parties, republican institutions, and other actors involved in the upcoming elections. In accordance with Article 19, item 7, of Law No. 2019-43 of November 15, 2019, as amended by Law No. 2024-13 of March 15, 2024, the publication of the timeline fulfills a legal requirement for transparency and electoral preparedness.
According to a statement published by CENA Benin on its Facebook page, the initiative aims to ensure a rigorous and inclusive planning of all phases of the electoral process, enabling every institutional and political actor to organize effectively for this major democratic event. It also marks the official beginning of the preparatory phase for the 2026 general elections, which will include presidential, legislative, and local elections.
In doing so, CENA reaffirms its commitment to transparency, dialogue, and inclusiveness in managing the electoral process, while calling on all stakeholders to participate actively, peacefully, and responsibly.
