Tunisia: 164 Guineans voluntarily repatriated after their migration journey

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, a total of 164 Guinean nationals were repatriated from Tunisia as part of a voluntary return program coordinated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), according to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency.

This repatriation is part of a broader strategy implemented by Tunisia to manage migratory flows. A special flight was arranged for the migrants, who had initially arrived in Tunisia with the intention of continuing their journey to Europe, according to an anonymous source from the IOM.

Since the beginning of the year, 1,544 migrants have been repatriated through voluntary return programs, according to a statement issued by the Tunisian presidency at the end of March.

In January, Mohamed Ben Ayed, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Tunisia had facilitated the voluntary return of 7,250 undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan Africa during 2024.
