Benin: hearing of ex-DGPN Louis-Philippe Houndégnon postponed again

The former Director General of the National Police, Louis-Philippe Houndégnon, will have to wait a little longer for the outcome of his legal case.

Scheduled for this Monday, March 24, 2025, his hearing before the Court for the Repression of Economic Offences and Terrorism (CRIET) has been postponed once again. This is the second consecutive postponement, the Court having set a new date for April 28.

This Monday’s hearing was supposed to allow the prosecution to present its case, but proceedings were once again interrupted. As with the previous postponement on March 17, the special court postponed consideration of the case to a later date. This time, the absence of the defendants was cited as the main reason for the postponement, preventing the pleadings and the prosecutor’s closing arguments from taking place.

This new postponement is fuelling speculation about the fate of the former police chief, prosecuted for incitement to rebellion and harassment by electronic means. As we await the hearing on April 28, 2025, the case continues to attract the attention of the public, who are wondering about the outcome of these proceedings.
